You can “Love Downtown Valdosta” all February long

Valdosta is adding a "Love Lock Fence" for the month of February so everyone can love Downtown Valdosta.

How about a little Southern love? Valdosta wants to help you “Love Downtown Valdosta” with a new promotion that lasts the entire month of February.

The January weather has been cool for the last couple of weeks, but the city hopes to entice people to visit downtown shops and restaurants.

For every $25 spent, people will be entered into a drawing to win $250 in “Downtown Dollars.”

The promotion begins Friday, February 1 during the “Downtown Getdown” free community concert and ends on Thursday, February 28.

“Spend a little bit, win a lot, is what we’re trying to do with this promotion. Encourage shopping small and local, spending in these shops and restaurants,” said Rachel Thrasher, Main Street Program Coordinator in a statement. “We wanted to create a promotion that would encourage them to spend and also give them an incentive while doing so.”

This map of Downtown Valdosta provides a view of where the activities are located.

In addition, the city will feature a newly “Love Lock Fence.” The fence will be installed in Bennie’s Alley, where people can attach a lock to it, signifying their “unbreakable love for their partner, children, or even pets.”

Visitors are welcome to bring their own lock or purchase a lock to add to the fence.

Valdosta is encouraging everyone to come and participate in this free public art project and love Downtown Valdosta. The fence will be available from February 1 to February 28.
